The Board of Professional Responsibility (BPR) is looking for a skilled and motivated Lead Legal Assistant. Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Disciplinary Counsel Litigation and the Chief Disciplinary Counsel, is responsible for litigation secretarial support and administrative assistance work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. This position is considered full-time with benefits and offers a hybrid schedule, which includes work in office and work at home.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
· Contact lay and expert witnesses
· Maintain Section calendar
· Arrange logistics related to disciplinary hearings
· Legal research as requested
· Preparation of trial exhibits and notebooks, including demonstrative exhibits
· Make travel arrangements related to disciplinary hearings and depositions
· Oversee maintenance and support for various litigation-related software and technology
· Supervise and coordinate work of other Section legal assistants
· Perform special projects as assigned by Chief Disciplinary Counsel or Deputy Chief Disciplinary Counsel
· Train new legal assistants
· Create and maintain effective filing and tracking systems
· Maintain databases as assigned
· Perform various word processing duties
· Perform a variety of administrative duties involving information compilation, monitoring and routine research
· Convey and receive information to and from staff, attorneys, Courts and the general public, in person, by telephone and by correspondence
· Operate and/or utilize a variety of standard business and office machines and equipment
· Work independently to assist attorneys with keeping correspondence current
· Audit litigation requests for case status change
· Confirm that closed files have been properly scanned
· Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited high school and experience equivalent to four (4) years of increasingly responsible full-time secretarial or administrative work as a legal secretary or educational equivalent such as Paralegal Certification.
SKILLS AND ABILITY: Knowledge of management and administrative principles, legal practices and terminology, office practices and procedures; ability to prioritize work according to general deadlines; proficiency in computer and word processing skills, including Microsoft Office and Word; ability to maintain confidences due to the highly confidential nature of the work of the Board; expertise in all aspects of on-site trial support.
