David Shearon to Leave CLE Comission
Commission Seeks New Executive Director
Nashville, Tenn. - David Shearon, executive director of the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and Specialization, has announced he is stepping down from the position effective December 31, 2010. Shearon has served as executive director since the Commission’s creation in 1987.
The Commission, which was established by the Tennessee Supreme Court, oversees the mandatory continuing legal education program for attorneys. The Commission tracks CLE compliance for more than 20,000 attorneys statewide and makes accreditation decisions on 10,000 courses for 6,000 CLE providers annually.
“For 23 years, David has invested his time and talents into the ongoing improvement of the legal profession by furthering the education of attorneys, judges and legal staff,” said Dalton Townsend, Chairman of the Commission. “Thanks to David’s efforts, Tennessee became one of the first states to offer online course accreditation. We commend David for his dedication to the legal system and wish him well as he pursues other opportunities to further his career in legal education.”
Prior to joining the Commission, Shearon spent five years in private practice and also worked in computer systems sales for three years. Shearon received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee and his juris doctorate from the University of Virginia. In 2006, he earned a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
