Justice Sharon Lee met with Governor Bill Haslam and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Col. Leo Thorsness at the State Capitol on April 8, 2013. Thorsness serves on the board of directors of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation and Knoxville will be the host city for the 2014 Medal of Honor convention.
The ceremony at the Capitol highlighted the Medal of Honor educational foundation which will be implementing a Medal of Honor curriculum in schools across the country.
Col. Thorness earned the Medal of Honor for his actions as a Major fighting an epic solo battle in the Vietnam War, but wasn’t aware he was a recipient until he was released after six years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. You can read more about Col. Thorsness’ career here.
