Replacement for retiring Judge R. Jerry Beck
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today appointed William K. Rogers of Kingsport as circuit court judge for the Second Judicial District, which serves Sullivan County.
Rogers, 59, replaces Judge R. Jerry Beck, whose retirement is effective June 30.
“Bill Rogers has had a distinguished career in Sullivan County and will serve the citizens of the Second Judicial District well on the circuit court bench,” Haslam said. “We are fortunate to have someone with his background and experience to serve in this capacity.”
Rogers has been a Municipal Judge for the City of Kingsport, a part-time position, since 2011. He has maintained his private law practice since 1986 with an emphasis on trial work, family law and estates. He has also been a Rule 31 mediator in Kingsport since 2001. Rogers has been a member of the board of governors of the Tennessee Municipal Judges Conference since 2014 and is a past president of the Kingsport Bar Association.
“I am honored that Governor Haslam has chosen me to serve as circuit court judge for the citizens of Sullivan County,” Rogers said. “I take it seriously and humbly, and I am grateful for the support I have had from the legal community and so many others.”
Rogers received his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1986. He received a master’s degree in business administration from East Tennessee State University in 1982 and a bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University in 1980.
He and his family are members of the First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport. He is a lifetime member of the Boy Scouts of America and volunteers in coaching youth athletics. Rogers was head coach of the men’s tennis team at East Tennessee State University from 1980-1982.
He and his wife, Allyson, have four children.
