The 2017 Tennessee Judicial Conference (TJC) recently held its annual conference in coordination with the Tennessee Bar Association in Kingsport. This year, Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals Judge and President of the TJC, Robert H. Montgomery, Jr. presented a Presidential Award to Sen. Doug Overbey, a native of the Tri-Cities area, for his longstanding public service to the Tennessee court system. An attorney, Sen. Overbey has served for over two decades in both the House and Senate, and presently serves as First Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee in the Tennessee General Assembly. Sen. Overbey also serves in numerous pro bono roles for the judicial branch from the Advisory Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedures to the Second Look Commission; often sponsoring numerous bills in support of the Tennessee courts, uniform juvenile rules and procedures as well as other public safety issues. In addition, Judge Montgomery also presented Presidential Awards on June 14 to the following recipients in appreciation for their public service and important work with the Judiciary:
Senator Jon Lundberg, representing the Tri Cities as both a House and Senate Member, Vice Chair, Senate Government Operations and Senate Judiciary.
Scott M. Niswonger, Chairman and Founder, The Niswonger Foundation that supports the Supreme Court of Tennessee’s nationally recognized SCALES program taking court to students;
David A. Golden, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal & Sustainability Officer, and Corporate Secretary for Eastman and serves on the Tennessee Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments as well as the Tennessee Trial Court Vacancy Commission.
