Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam appointed David M. Rudolph Circuit Court Judge for the 30th Judicial District, which serves Shelby County.
The vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge Robert L. Childers on June 30.
Rudolph, 54, has been at the Memphis law firm Bourland, Heflin, Alvarez, Minor & Matthews since 2009, where he practiced in the areas of complex commercial litigation, tort litigation and employment law.
“David has extensive legal experience and will serve the citizens of Shelby County well,” Haslam said. “He has had a distinguished career, and we are pleased to announce this appointment.”
“I would like to thank Governor Haslam for this appointment,” Rudolph said. “I am deeply honored by his confidence in me and look forward to serving the citizens of Shelby County.”
Rudolph has been in private practice since 1989. Previously, he was a judicial clerk for Judge Bailey Brown of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit from 1988-1989.
He received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in 1985 and his law degree from Vanderbilt in 1988. During law school, Rudolph served as editor-in-chief of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law.
Rudolph has held various leadership positions with the Tennessee and Memphis Bar Associations and has served on the board of directors for the Tennessee Employment Lawyers Association since 2014. He served on the Memphis Rotary Club board of directors in 2009.
Rudolph and his wife, Elizabeth, have four sons, Myers, Gardner, Wise and Carson.
