Tennessee's Newest Judge, Douglas T. Jenkins, Sworn In

The Third Judicial District welcomed its newest judge today, a day after Gov. Bill Haslam appointed Douglas T. Jenkins of Rogersville as chancellor.

Criminal Court Judge John F. Dugger, Jr. performed the swearing in of Judge Jenkins.

Judge Jenkins, 45, has practiced in the Law Office of Douglas T. Jenkins in Rogersville since 1997. He worked in the Law Offices of Terry, Terry & Stapleton in Morristown from 1995-1997.

His areas of practice have included domestic relations; probate/wills/estate/estate litigation; criminal defense and property boundary disputes. Jenkins has been owner and manager of a private family farm in Hawkins County since 1986.

“I sincerely appreciate the confidence the governor has placed in me by appointing me Chancellor for the 3rd Judicial District,” Judge Jenkins said. “I will do my best to decide the cases that come before me impartially and expeditiously. I take this opportunity very seriously and pledge to do my best for the people.”

Judge Jenkins received his juris doctorate from the Nashville School of Law in 1995. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Tennessee Tech University in 1990.

Judge Jenkins is currently vice president of the Rogersville Heritage Association, a member of the Hawkins County Farmers Cooperative board of directors and a master mason at Overton Lodge  no. 5. He is a member of the Choptack Missionary Baptist Church.

Judge Jenkins and his wife, Pamela, have three sons and a daughter, ages 10 to 15.

The vacancy was created by the appointment of Chancellor Thomas R. Frierson to the Tennessee Court of Appeals earlier this year. The 3rd Judicial District serves Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins and Greene counties.
