The Tennnessee Supreme Court heard oral arguments at Tennessee Girls State on Thursday as part of the Court's SCALES program, which stands for Supreme Court Advancing Legal Education for Students.
This was the first time the Court brought the SCALES program to Girls State, which was held at Lipscomb University in Nashville. More than 500 Girls State delegates participated in the program.
The Girls State delegates, who are high school juniors from across the state, heard a divorce case involving whether a wife is entitled to alimony and a case involving a car accident while working and the amount of the employer’s uninsured motorist coverage.
More than 21,000 Tennessee students from more than 440 high schools have participated in the SCALES project since its creation in 1995.
