Court of Appeals Judge W. Neal McBrayer recently joined the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature (TISL) Board of Directors.
“Having participated in TISL as a college student, I know firsthand the benefits of the program,” said Judge McBrayer. “It's hands-on learning that encourages future civic engagement. I am pleased to support an organization that teaches young adults about how their state government works.”
According to their web site, TISL mirrors Tennessee State Government by allowing college students to create their own General Assembly. Each November, the student run Senate and House of Representatives meet in the legislative chambers of the State Capital to draft bills and amendments, voice their views on state politics, participate in committees, learn parliamentary procedure and the legislative process, and develop debate and public speaking skills.
“Judge McBrayer, through his tenure in the state judicial branch, brings both wisdom and a unique perspective to the TISL Foundation's board as it continues its mission to cultivate the next generation of leaders through direct participation in civic engagement,” said Jacob Baggett, TISL Foundation Board Executive Director.
Since its inception in 1966, TISL’s given thousands of students from more than 40 Tennessee colleges and universities the chance to experience every aspect of state politics and government.
